The Vallée de Joux is known for its climate. For weeks on end snow covers the hilly countryside of the Jura sector of the Lake Geneva Region, which lies at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,600 m.

The Joux Valley is the land of cross-country skiing and snowshoes. Over 220 km of runs are marked out and carefully kept. Above the fog and under the sun, they allow intense moments of communion with winter’s nature, silence and the biting cold.

It is also possible to practise downhill skiing. There are ski-tow installations at la Dent-de-Vaulion, l’Abbaye, l’Orient, or le Brassus. These runs, cut out for families and far from the bustle of the big resorts, will happily surprise more than one expert.

During intensely cold winters Lake Joux freezes over completely to become a huge, natural skating rink. From an obstacle to be skirted, the lake becomes a brigde between its shores. Regardless of the weather, the indoor skating rink of the Sentier Sports Centre ensures high-quality ice all winter long.
